5 Conversation Topics for a Great First Date
A first date can be a nerve wracking situation — you’re trying to make a good first impression on the person who may become your future partner. However, it’s also a great opportunity to meet someone new and learn about him or her!
How often do you truly interact with someone new in your daily life? Probably not very often. Rather than becoming stressed about appearing to be perfect, focus on starting a great conversation. You might be surprised to see how much you relax in the process!
History
Asking about your date’s upbringing is a great way to get insight into what he or she is like as a person now. Ask them to describe their hometown, family members, and what they were like in high school. With any luck, you’ll get some good stories about awkward high school moments or childhood sibling rivalries.
Travel
Regardless of financial means, everyone has a list of places they’ve been or would like to go. Ask your date about their “bucket list” places to visit and about the favorite trip they’ve ever taken. Asking about travel plans is also a good way to see whether his or her interests are a match for yours.
Entertainment
This one can go in a lot of different directions from movies to TV to music. Ask about favorite shows to binge watch on Netflix, the best concert they’ve been to, or the most recent movie they’ve seen. Again, these answers will help you judge how similar your tastes are!
Goals
When the date is winding down, shift the conversation to talk about goals. What are your date’s career aspirations? Where do they see themselves in ten years? Thinking about long-term plans helps focus on whether or not someone can see you in that future. If the answer is “yes,” a second date may be just around the corner.
