Detox Tips for Mind and Body

No matter how healthy you think you are, there’s always room for a little detox in your life. Detoxing means different things to different people and might even differ from one month or one week to the next.

If you’ve never tried a mind/body detox before, or are new to the concept, here are a few good places to start:

Food and Drink

Our busy, hectic lives are not always conducive to healthy eating. We love to be social with others, and that often involves calorie-ridden restaurant meals paired with rounds of alcoholic drinks.

Over time, this diet can negatively impact your mind and body. Cutting out alcohol and making an effort to eat healthy, home-cooked food — even for only a short period of time — is a good first step toward adopting a healthier lifestyle overall.

Screen Time

Beyond what we put into our bodies, what we put into our minds is also ripe for detox. The amount of time we spend scrolling through social media is detrimental to our attention spans and takes time away from real-life interactions.

Pick a week where you gradually reduce the amount of time you spend looking at a screen (computer, phone, etc.) each day. Instead of mindlessly looking at a screen, spend time reading a book, trying a new recipe, or building something with your hands!

It may feel difficult at first, but you’ll be surprised at how quickly you find a sense of clarity and return to your daily life focused and renewed.

Get More Sleep

Sleep is a critical part of a healthy lifestyle, but it’s often overlooked. A key element of any detox plan should include getting more sleep each night. For most of us, this means going to bed a little earlier and sticking to a consistent sleep schedule, even on the weekends and days off. Coupled with a healthy diet and less screen time, you’ll most likely be feeling more refreshed and energized soon!
