Embrace Life’s In-Between Stages
Life is full of a lot of ups and downs, but there’s an awful lot of middle ground between them. Whether it’s getting married, having a child, or dealing with the loss of a family member, the emotion of those big moments eventually calms down and you settle back into “normal” life.
But normal life doesn’t always have to mean boring or statics. There are many ways to make the most of the time in between life’s big events to keep yourself moving forward instead of sitting around waiting for the next big thing to happen.
Appreciate the Mundane
We’re all guilty of falling into our routines and moving mindlessly through them with each passing day. Sometimes making a small change is all it takes to appreciate what you have and give you a new perspective on the daily grind.
How many times do you drive the exact same route to work without even thinking about it? Try leaving a few minutes earlier one day and taking a different route. You might be surprised at what you find along the way.
Or, maybe you’ll choose to try a new class at your gym instead of doing the same old workout again. Either way, you can change your outlook without changing much about your daily routine.
Plan For the Future
These “calmer” moments in life — although they might not always seem so calm — are a great opportunity to reflect on your goals and figure out a way to make them happen. For better or worse, we all go into a different mode of operation when a big event is happening. We focus on the task at hand and little else, leaving longer-term goals to fall by the wayside.
The time between those big moments allows you to return to a sense of normalcy and figure out what you want that next big moment to be.
