Tapping into your intuition
Intuition exists in all of us. It’s a navigational sense we are born with, and the more we can learn about it, the more we can use it to shape our lives for the better.
You can think of your intuition as the voice of your spirit. We all have a spirit—therefore, we all have intuition that we can tap into. Intuition can be recognized as an inner guidance, a kind of knowing, or an internal compass. We use terms like hunch, gut feeling, and instinct to describe the way intuition influences our behavior. When you experience a gut feeling about something, it’s usually a spontaneous telepathic thought or idea that doesn’t seem to go away until your respond to it.
The more you tap into your intuition by following it and taking action, the stronger your intuition will get. Think of it like going to the gym and working out. The more you work out, the stronger your muscles get. So every time we listen and follow our intuition, the stronger it gets.
Here are some guidelines to tapping into your intuition:
- Listen. When you get an intuitive impression in your daily life—listen, and respond to it immediately. All too often, we dismiss these intuitive thoughts as having no basis in reality, or just “coming from nowhere.” Your intuition can’t talk to you if you’re not listening. When you start to take notice, good things will happen.
- Trust your gut feeling. When your intuition is talking to you, don’t analyze, criticize, or get stuck in the stories you tell yourself. Instead, imagine, be open, and trust your experience.
- Feel. You’ll know your intuition is there because you’ll be able to feel it, if you let yourself. You’ll feel it in your belly, or it’ll give you goosebumps. Or you might notice a shiver down your spine or a racing heart. Sometimes it’s even more subtle—just knowing that you have that you might not be able to explain. You’ll feel when something is right—it will feel clear, nourishing, and enriching. And you’ll feel when something is off—for me, it’s like a pit in my stomach.
- Take action. The Universe rewards those who take action—and so does your intuition. When you act on the information you receive from your inner voice, the channel between your subconscious and conscious mind widens and you will receive more intuitive messages that are stronger and easier for you to hear and act on.
Trusting your intuition might be difficult at first if you’re not used to it, but give it time, and trust it bit by bit. Once you understand how your intuition works, you can step into its power and use it to help make clear decisions. Your intuition will never fail you—a lesson you’ll learn, as you trust it more and more. So, stop second-guessing yourself and listening to what others tell you to do or be and instead, turn inward. Your inner voice is providing guidance—you just have to listen.
