Add These Self-Care Habits to your Daily Routine
When life gets crazy, it’s easy to put everyone else’s needs above yours. Your job, your family, and other commitments all take priority to keep the plates of life spinning.
With a few changes to your daily routine, you can make time for the self-care that’s essential to make sure you can be your best self for everyone else in your life.
Unplug in the morning
For many of us, our first instinct when we wake up in the morning is to reach for our phones on the nightstand. This starts your day off from a place of anxiety about everything that’s waiting for you, rather than a place of calm.
Resist the urge to grab your phone when you wake up. Instead, use the first few moments of the day to offer gratitude for something in your life and think about what you want to accomplish that day.
If this is a difficult habit for you to break, consider leaving your phone in another room entirely and not checking it until you’ve fully woken up and are ready to tackle the day.
Make connections
When things get stressful, we tend to turn inward and skimp on everyday social interactions that make the world go around. Take a few minutes out of each today to have a conversation with your barista, the mailman, the crossing guard at school, or anyone else you see throughout the day.
Although it sounds counterintuitive, connecting with others is a great self-care tool because it reminds us why we are in this rat race called life in the first place.
Fit play into your day
Even the busiest people need to take time to quiet their mind and relax a little throughout the day. Adding a little playfulness to your daily routine is a great way to practice self-care.
Children play all day long and can be a great inspiration for this — sing a silly song, play a game, draw a picture, run around, or do whatever else is going to put your mind at ease. You’ll be surprised how much less stressful the rest of your day feels once you take that mental reset.
