Follow Your Intuition When You Feel Stuck

Your own instincts can be powerful as advice you receive from other sources if you take the time to listen to them!

Make Time to Listen

The first step toward following your gut is taking the time to listen to it. We all have a million things coming at us every day, and our instinct is often to react quickly and make a snap decision, or immediately start asking others what we should do.

In a stressful situation, your first response is not always your best. It tends to come from a place of anxiety and avoidance rather than your true inner voice.

The next time you’re faced with a difficult decision, remove yourself from the situation for a little while if you can before moving forward. Take a walk, meditate, or do whatever helps you feel relaxed. Once you’ve removed fear and anxiety from the equation, you might be surprised to learn that what seemed insurmountable before might not be such a big deal after all.

Acting on Intuition

Once you’ve established the inner guidance, it’s time to act on it. This can be easier said than done, especially if you are used to relying on external validation.

Be sure that you’ve carefully considered your options and feel confident and energized about your decision before moving forward. If you do not believe in your thoughts or actions, it will be difficult to convince others to do the same.

Whenever you feel uncertain, remember that no one knows you better than you, and you’ve completed the thinking required to make a mindful decision. If it doesn’t work out, you can retrace your steps and do the same thing again. Learning from mistakes is one way to hone your personal intuition so it can better serve you in the long run.
